Welcome GOC Parents, the Metropolis Home School organization!

Our local families have come together and created a home school organization to connect, discuss, educate and help support our Orthodox families who are currently homeschooling their children in the Cobleskill-Richmondville area.  The Bible tells us that children are a gift from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5; 139:13-16). And, God has entrusted us with our children, which we have the responsibility of training, instructing, nurturing, and disciplining them, as well as overseeing their education (Ephesians 6:4).

With the blessings of His Eminence, Metropolitan Demetrius of America, we are currently developing classes for the upcoming new year, which is scheduled to begin January 2023.  We plan to meet every Tuesday 1:30pm-3:30pm; in addition to field trips, fundraising events, and attending church services together.  Our classes will include; Religious Education, Byzantine Chant, Greek Language, and Faith-Based Arts & Crafts (including an intro to Iconography).  Our Religious program will primarily focus on Feast days, Lives of the Saints, Holy Sacraments, Divine Liturgy and other Church services, and much much more!  Our sessions will incorporate Byzantine Chant and each Student will learn their patron Saints Troparion along with other Feast Day hymns!  We will have seasonal performances and presentations.  Also being offered once a month, a class which will be taught by one of the Fathers from Saint John of San Francisco Orthodox Monastery.

All classes and gatherings will begin with prayer and end with prayer and forgiveness; nurturing the Orthodox way-of-life and Community for our children!

There is $25.00 fee per-child to cover supply costs, (this may vary throughout the school year).

“Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.” (Deuteronomy 4:10)
